The electrical cable that pierces the skin to power the implant is still the Achilles’ heel—driveline- and device-related infections occur in over 20% of patients in long-term follow-up. People live tethered to external controllers and batteries. They cannot swim freely, hesitate to shower, and must plan each day around power and cables.
